A Daoist poem arises naturally out of the stillness of an empty mind, like fresh grasses in the springtime.\u00a0 Embracing both wuji and taiji, Daoist poetry can clear the mind and reveal the Dao.<\/p>\n<p>I started experiencing poetic inspirations during my priest training in the American Dragon Gate Lineage from 2007-2010.\u00a0 They were born out of my qi-cultivation practice and were particularly influenced by the combined practice of studying the Daozang (Daoist Canon) and practicing Zuowang meditation (Sitting &amp; Forgetting).<\/p>\n<p>Discovering the poetic process has exposed me to the creative process that many artists experience \u2013 without any deliberate intention to create something, we spontaneously find ourselves channeling inspiration from mysterious places.\u00a0 I consider this to be an example of the spontaneous arising (ziran) which appears out of wuwei practice.<\/p>\n<p>Poems:<\/p>\n<p>1.<\/p>\n<p>Relaxing everything into a stable base<br \/>\nA powerful geyser wells up from deep inside<br \/>\nLifting me beyond my senses<br \/>\nWithout excitement, I ride the rising mists<\/p>\n<p>2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Letting go of all my concerns<br \/>\nI settle deeply into the serenity of nature<br \/>\nIt\u2019s already there<br \/>\nI don\u2019t have to do a darn thing<br \/>\nGreater than anything<br \/>\nAnyone could ever contrive<\/p>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<p>Compressing essence<br \/>\nElixir rises on its own<br \/>\nPenetrating the passes<br \/>\nGolden spout in full bloom<\/p>\n<p>4.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting in stillness<br \/>\nI feel the current of my ancestors pouring into me<br \/>\nAbsorbing their essence<br \/>\nI peer back into the beginningless origin<\/p>\n<p>5.<\/p>\n<p>Relaxing my effort<br \/>\nNothing is wrong<br \/>\nNow I can breathe easy<br \/>\nAbiding in the Middle Kingdom<\/p>\n<p>6.<\/p>\n<p>Chamber empty<br \/>\nFire burning hot<br \/>\nPurple smoke rising<br \/>\nSweet dew seeping<br \/>\nWild birds riding on the wind<\/p>\n<address><a href=\"http:\/\/yang-sheng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/ys33.jpg\"><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/address>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/yang-sheng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/ys33.jpg\"><em><em> <\/em><\/em><\/a><em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/yang-sheng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Gu_Shen_Yu_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2584\" src=\"http:\/\/yang-sheng.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Gu_Shen_Yu_2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/em>Jacob  Newell (Daoshi Gu Shen Yu) <\/em><em>is an ordained Daoist priest and founder of Old Oak School of Dao.\u00a0 He practices and teaches Taijiquan <\/em><em>and  Daoist cultivation in Sonoma   County, California.\u00a0 His book of poetry,  These Daoist Bones, is available from his website, <a title=\"Old Oak School of Dao\" href=\"www.oldoakdao.org\">www.oldoakdao.org<\/a>.<\/em><em> <\/em><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><div style=\"padding-top:10px;margin-bottom:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:arial;font-weight:bold;\">Do you like this?
