The 2026 TCM Wellness Study & Exp Tours to China

Oct. 11–25, 2026 | 15 Days | 5 Distinctive Bases | Led by Dr. Kevin Chen

Are you tired of rushed sightseeing tours that barely touch the surface of China’s culture—and leave you more exhausted than renewed? Are you looking for an authentic, immersive experience that helps you restore energy, calm the mind, care for the body, and reconnect with a deeper sense of well-being?

This autumn, from October 11 to 25, 2026, I invite you to join our exclusive Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Yang-Sheng Study & Explore Tour. Designed for Qigong practitioners, holistic-health professionals, TCM enthusiasts, and thoughtful self-care seekers, this is far more than a vacation. It is a 15-day learning and wellness journey into the living traditions of TCM, Daoist cultivation, Qigong, food therapy, and mind–body–spirit practice.

Our group will travel through Shanghai, Mount Jinhua and nearby Yiwu, Beijing, and Langfang, with five distinctive wellness bases along the way. Rather than centering the trip on crowded landmarks and quick photographs, the program emphasizes hands-on learning, daily practice, quiet reflection, cultural immersion, and practical methods of Yang-Sheng—“nurturing life.” The underlying TCM principle is simple: cultivate harmony between human beings and nature, support the body’s inherent capacity for balance, and make self-care a daily practice.

Longevity is a welcome result of a well-cultivated life, but it is not the main promise of this tour. Our central purpose is to help you develop more energy, better self-awareness, a calmer mind, and practical tools for sustaining overall well-being after you return home.

Why This Journey Is Different

Many of the experiences on this itinerary are difficult for independent visitors to arrange: a multi-day stay at a Daoist academy, small-group Qigong instruction at a leading research institute, in-depth wellness programs at TCM centers, and private cultural and practice sessions with experienced teachers. Our small group brings these elements together in one carefully coordinated program.

You will move between modern TCM education and clinical observation, mountain-based Daoist life, Qigong and Daoyin practice, thermal relaxation, food therapy, cultural arts, and personalized wellness consultation. Each experience is selected to deepen—not merely describe—the principles of Yang-Sheng.

Every class, lecture, meal, and practice supports one central idea: health and vitality are the foundation for everything else in life.

  • Kick off your journey in Shanghai, China’s largest metropolis. Ascend a landmark skyscraper observation deck to soak in the iconic Huangpu River skyline and witness firsthand the achievements of China’s reform and opening-up movement.
  • Shanghai wellness and academic program. Visit Shanghai University of TCM, the Shanghai Museum of TCM, a major integrated TCM hospital, and the Shanghai Qigong Research Institute. Learn directly from experienced instructors while exploring the history and modern application of Qigong and Chinese medicine.

  • Yiwu wellness-market visit. Explore the world-renowned Yiwu International Trade City, with time to discover massage tools, herbal aromatics, meridian-practice items, and other affordable wellness accessories that may support a continuing home practice.
  • Beijing TCM and medical-Qigong experience. Participate in a private two-day program at the Beijing TCM Exchange Center, including wellness cultivation exercises, TCM constitutional consultation, external Qigong demonstration, acupuncture, moxibustion, tuina, and Daoist relaxation practices.
  • Great Wall and royal hot-spring retreat. Hike the Great Wall as a moving meditation on human–nature harmony, then rest at a historic-style hot-spring resort with mineral bathing and TCM massage.

The Legacy of This Tour—and Your Guide

We successfully led three immersive TCM wellness study tours in 2017 and 2018, with participants describing the experience as deeply educational, restorative, and personally meaningful. After a pause caused by professional commitments and the pandemic, we are delighted to reopen the tour in 2026 with a refined itinerary and renewed partnerships.

Your host and full-time tour director, Dr. Kevin Chen, has decades of experience in Chinese wellness research, Qigong, cross-cultural health education, and medical-wellness travel. He will personally guide the program, provide live bilingual interpretation during classes and cultural visits, and help participants understand how the practices encountered in China may be adapted thoughtfully to daily life in North America.

This journey is for people who want to move beyond surface-level sightseeing: those who wish to learn directly from TCM professionals and Daoist teachers, experience Chinese wellness culture in context, practice what they learn, and return home with useful habits for energy, resilience, and well-being.

Shanghai – China’s Largest Metropolis & Global Longevity Capital

Shanghai is China’s most populous major city, home to roughly 20 million residents, often nicknamed “the New York of the East.” It boasts more skyscrapers than New York City, claiming the global number one rank for high-rise architecture, plus the world’s longest subway network stretching 906 kilometers as of 2025—far exceeding the transit systems of New York and London. Even more remarkable, Shanghai stands as an international benchmark for longevity, recording a 2025 average life expectancy of 84.11 years, surpassing nearly all highly developed nations worldwide. Its extraordinary population longevity stems from an advanced national healthcare infrastructure and widespread community adoption of traditional TCM wellness practices, making it the perfect starting point for our deep dive into China’s time-tested longevity science.

Day 1 welcomes all international participants arriving in Shanghai Pudong International Airport from across the globe. Our team provides complimentary airport pickup service to transfer you to a comfortable four-star hotel, where a delicious welcome feast awaits to kick off your one-of-a-kind exclusive wellness exploration journey.

Day 2 centers on immersive academic training at the Shanghai Qigong Research Institute, China’s sole independent government-backed official Qigong research institution with over 40-years history. Our small group receives a private, exclusive guided tour of China’s only dedicated Qigong History Exhibition Hall—home to irreplaceable ancient medical relics, stone murals, bamboo manuscripts and calligraphy artifacts tracing Qigong’s cross-dynastic evolution through Taoism, Confucianism, traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts traditions, with multilingual audio guides available for seamless learning. This entire facility is closed to independent foreign travelers. In the afternoon, we embark on a streamlined premium Shanghai skyline sightseeing tour, headlined by panoramic city views from the Oriental Pearl Tower’s observation deck; a relaxing Huangpu River cruise will be added to the schedule if time permits.

Day 3 continues our hands-on mind-body therapy training at the Shanghai Qigong Research Institute, led by senior certified Qigong masters exclusively for our group. Participants will learn two authentic energy cultivation forms: Huashan Rejuvenation Gong (华山道家回春功), a classical Taoist standing longevity routine gentle enough for all ages and fitness levels, designed to regenerate internal vital essence and slow biological aging; plus the 12 Primary Meridian Daoyin Method (十二经络导引养生术), a practical meridian healing system rooted in classical TCM theories of qi and blood circulation. Later in the afternoon, we continue our curated Shanghai cultural and medical tour with exclusive access to a large modern municipal hospital, where we explore China’s integrated clinical treatment system unavailable to casual tourists.

Day 4 features a full morning educational deep dive at Shanghai University of Chinese Medicine, offering you a firsthand introduction to China’s formal TCM higher education system. The majority of the morning is dedicated to an in-depth guided tour of the Shanghai Museum of TCM, delivering a vivid, comprehensive overview of thousands of years of Chinese medical history in a condensed, engaging format. This museum traces its origins to the Medical History Museum founded in 1938. Following a nourishing dietary lunch, we board our private charter bus bound for Jinhua Mountain to begin our secluded private Daoist temple retreat—an experience you cannot book independently as a foreign visitor.

Mount Jinhua – Private Secluded Sacred Taoist Temple Retreat

Have you ever imagined living, studying, and practicing in a sacred mountain setting alongside Daoist priests? At Mount Jinhua, that possibility becomes real.

Revered in Daoist tradition as the 36th Cave-Heaven of Daoism, Mount Jinhua has a long association with inner cultivation, meditation, and spiritual practice. Daoist legends connect the region with the Yellow Emperor and the Nine-Heaven Xuan Lady. We will visit the mountain’s temples and reside for three days at the Academy of Laozi, located within the Huang-Daxian Ancestor Temple complex.

The Academy was established to preserve and share Daoist culture and wellness practice. Our group will live and dine within this peaceful setting, receiving direct instruction from resident Daoist priests. For many participants, this is one of the most memorable and inwardly quiet parts of the entire journey.

Days 5 through 7 constitute our full immersive Taoist retreat, beginning each morning with mandatory early spiritual classes and mind-body cultivation exercises. The core training focus is the 2,000-year-old indigenous Chisongzi Daoyin Qigong native to this mountain region; every afternoon features in-depth study of Taoist classic texts and practical daily Taoist wellness lifestyle lessons. This three-day retreat is tailored for beginners with no prior Taoist training experience, covering a full spectrum of exclusive activities: early morning Taoist chanting and cultivation classes, specialized Taoist wellness Qigong training centered on Chisongzi Daoyin, academic study of Taoist classics and their real-world applications for personal health and feng shui environmental balance, authentic Taoist tea ceremony with guided tea tasting, and private tours of the priests’ daily living quarters and famous mountain meditation caves. Be prepared to rise early each morning for sunrise training sessions; the temple provides nourishing Taoist vegetarian meals three times daily for all participants. While the Academy guest rooms are comfortable and peaceful, traditional solid wooden plank beds are used in place of modern soft mattresses, intentionally designed to support long hours of meditation and spinal alignment for optimal wellness.

Jinhua Mountain Huang-Da-Xian original temple

On Day 6, after morning Qigong practice, we take our private charter bus to Yiwu International Trade City, the world’s largest wholesale small commodities hub. Browse an endless selection of authentic TCM and Taoist wellness merchandise, including massage tools, herbal aromatics, meridian therapy devices and natural herbal self-care accessories, all priced at just one-tenth of comparable goods sold on Western online retail platforms. This one-stop wholesale shopping experience offers an unparalleled chance to stock up on affordable, portable practice tools and thoughtful gifts for your family and friends to sustain your TCM wellness routine long after you return home. We wrap up the day with a nourishing local dinner followed by a soothing professional TCM foot massage.

Yiwu International Trade City

On Day 8, our group will be the only international foreign delegation invited to participate in the official national Chisongzi Daoyin Qigong Competition held at the local Chisong Taoist Temple. You will watch live demonstrations and exchange cultivation techniques with over 20 domestic teams from across China, forging lifelong connections with Taoist practitioners from all walks of life—a rare cross-cultural exchange opportunity reserved exclusively for our tour. In the afternoon, we board China’s high-speed bullet train traveling nearly 200 miles per hour to Beijing, our next major wellness destination, for your first firsthand experience of China’s world-class high-speed rail system.

Beijing: Exclusive TCM Exchange Center & Imperial Royal Hot Spring Resort

Days 9 and 10 are dedicated to immersive training at the Beijing TCM Exchange Center, a specialized healthcare facility focused entirely on TCM and medical Qigong therapies. Its origins trace back to a classified dedicated PLA military Qigong medical unit, originally created to provide emergency healing and wellness care for military officers. Today, it operates as an elite international exchange hub for TCM and medical Qigong, with restricted visitor access that blocks ordinary foreign tourists from booking clinical or training programs here.

Beijing TCM Exchange Center Healing Practice

The center has custom-designed a private two-day study and experience curriculum exclusively for our group, including morning daily wellness cultivation exercises, live master demonstrations, in-depth Taoist wellness seminars, hands-on external Qigong healing therapy, Taiji Monument Qigong, and Laojun Tang Lying Meditation—a rare passive Taoist deep relaxation practice. Every participant receives a personalized one-on-one TCM constitutional diagnosis, followed by hands-on healing sessions featuring acupuncture, physical therapeutic manipulation and external qi energy adjustment. Nutrient-dense custom medicinal meals tailored to balance internal qi will also be provided daily for all group members.

The center’s founder and chief physician is Dr. Sujian Wan (a close friend of Dr. Chen), a fourth-generation TCM practitioner born into a multi-generational medical family—both his mother and daughter practice licensed traditional Chinese medicine. Dr. Wan began formal acupuncture training at just nine years old, receiving comprehensive rigorous education in Chinese herbal medicine, martial arts and Taoist Qigong. He holds dual medical degrees from Capital Medical College and the Beijing Military Medical School. A globally recognized Qigong master, he was featured in the documentary Qigong – Ancient Chinese Healing for the 21st Century, and elected Vice President of the World Academic Society of Medical Qigong. China Today published a full feature story covering his groundbreaking work in 2014 (http://www.chinatoday.com.cn/ctchinese/society/article/2014-08/06/content_633448.htm ).

Day 11 delivers a full day of Beijing cultural sightseeing. We begin with a hike on the Great Wall, China’s iconic cultural and historical landmark, where you will embody the core TCM wellness principle of harmony between humanity and nature. Subject to available schedule time, we will capture quick exterior check-in photos at landmark sites including the Olympic Park Bird’s Nest & Water Cube, the National Centre for the Performing Arts (the Giant Egg), the Beihai White Pagoda, the outer moat and corner towers of the Forbidden City (no indoor ticketed entry required), and the China Millennium Monument. It is critical to note that sightseeing remains a secondary supplement to our core wellness study program—this trip’s primary mission is authentic TCM and Qigong experience, not casual tourism. After our day of landmark exploration, we check into a luxury imperial royal hot spring resort for two nights, enjoying relaxing mineral hot spring bathing followed by full authentic professional TCM massage treatments. An optional paid three-day extended Beijing city sightseeing tour is available to book after the core wellness program.

Langfang – Luxury Five-Star Integrated TCM Culture & Wellness Immersion

Traveling from Jinhua Mountain to Langfang connects two contrasting yet complementary wellness philosophies: the minimalist, humble Taoist mountain cultivation lifestyle, and cutting-edge five-star luxury wellness powered by modern medical science and technology. Nestled within Langfang Development Zone, Ennova Health Group operates as an innovative wellness subsidiary under ENN Group, one of China’s largest energy conglomerates. The health group consists of two interconnected premium divisions: the Tri-Healing Health Center, focused on clinical TCM wellness and therapeutic healing, and the Seven Cultivation Academy paired with a five-star dedicated wellness hotel, built to nurture virtue, mental balance and holistic well-being.

The Seven Cultivation Hotel in LangFang

Day 12 is fully dedicated to immersive Seven Cultivation wellness culture exploration. We arrive at the Seven Cultivation Hotel for a private guided tour unpacking the resort’s core integrated wellness philosophy and signature landmark spaces. After check-in, you will unwind in thoughtfully designed guest rooms built around China’s Five Elements wellness framework, adorned with traditional mulberry paper decor, sandalwood and agarwood aromatics, and handcrafted classical art to cultivate consistent calm and mental relaxation. We enjoy two full authentic Shandong folk-style feasts at the on-site YuShan Family Restaurant for lunch and dinner, each paired with live folk cultural stage performances to deliver a complete multi-sensory dining experience. Between meals, participate in two exclusive hands-on craft workshops hosted at the Seven Cultivation Academy: first, design and create your own custom copper foil burnt painting with step-by-step guidance from master artisans—no prior drawing or art experience required; second, blend natural therapeutic herbs to craft portable ancient scented incense plaques you can carry daily to calm stress and stabilize your nervous system.

Day 13 delivers a deep dive into professional clinical TCM healing therapy. We visit the exclusive Tri-Healing Wellness Center for a full facility tour, followed by a cutting-edge quantum micro-magnetic full-body health scan and one-on-one private TCM consultations using the four classic diagnostic methods to decode your unique physical constitution and internal energy imbalances. After a nourishing regional vitality lunch at Jin Ting Restaurant, join small-group personalized TCM therapy sessions including acupuncture, moxibustion and therapeutic tuina massage. You will also learn to identify raw medicinal herbs and their wellness properties, then craft a custom all-natural herbal therapy pouch to take home for long-term self-care. We return to the Seven Cultivation Hotel in the late afternoon, then gather at the academy for a lively, interactive traditional Chinese home cooking class to conclude the day’s activities.

Day 14 centers on intangible cultural heritage immersion and Hanfu traditional costume cultural experience. Our morning workshop at the Seven Cultivation Academy covers elegant Song Dynasty silk textile craftsmanship: learn the profound history of the ancient Silk Road and classic traditional textile patterns, then craft delicate handmade accessories including flower pendants and begonia earrings under professional master guidance. At midday, sample a wide range of local specialty snacks and classic regional pastries at the Grand Dining Hall, accompanied by continuous live folk entertainment performances throughout the meal. The afternoon’s flagship highlight is our full Hanfu costume experience hosted in the hotel’s grand lobby—every participant receives a complete set of authentic Han Dynasty traditional robes and matching accessories, free to wear for the remainder of your stay to capture stunning, timeless travel photographs as lifelong mementos of your China wellness journey. We wrap up Day 14 with a rich, flavorful Shandong folk banquet featuring live stage cultural performances at YuShan Family Restaurant.

Day 15 marks our departure and the start of your lifelong wellness transformation. Savor our final revitalizing seasonal wellness breakfast at the hotel to refresh your mind, body and spirit before concluding your stay. All participants complete hotel check-out before noon, bringing our immersive 15-day Langfang TCM culture and wellness retreat to a fulfilling close. Some travelers will depart directly for their international flights home, while others may elect to join the optional paid three-day in-depth Beijing city sightseeing extension tour.
